Illumatype is a conceptual typeface inspired by a disruptor. It aims to capture the essence of this individual and break through the rigid limitations of typography by using tactile materials rather then digital programs to construct the letterforms

Concept
Fabric, light and shadow
Desmond’s early work in photography and stage design inspired the foundation of this typographical concept. By breaking down the basic elements of that project, these being the use of light, shadow and texture in material. The experimental approach to typography best suites Desmond as he has never been extremely interested in type design.
The project which inspired this concept is a theatrical stage design which uses layered mutton cloth stretched over wire frames with different colored light shining through the fabric.
